John Havlik, former senior designer at the U of I's Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, created some of KCPA's most intriguing and memorable promotional materials. A Chicago native, he received a BFA and MFA from Southern Illinois University, and prior to joining the KCPA staff in 1989 he worked in the advertising industry as an illustrator and designer. His work has won national and regional awards, as well as purchase awards from universities in Missouri, Indiana, and North Dakota. In this interview he discusses the importance of craftsmanship in graphic design, as well as its relationship to emerging technologies.
